Unlock relief, restore your motion

Northern Virginia’s premiere location for specialized TMJ and Pelvic Health treatment.

Hi, I’m Shira!

NoVaMotion Physical Therapy is here to help you with your temporomandibular dysfunction, cervicogenic headaches, and orofacial pain.

I have been a practicing orthopedic physical therapist for 18 years and have dedicated the past several years to evaluating and treating temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, neck pain, orofacial pain, and headaches. I have advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of TMD and am one of northern Virginia’s only board Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapists. I will take the time to listen to your concerns and develop an individualized treatment plan to address your symptoms and help you reach your goals.

I am an affiliate member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and collaborate with dental professionals in the area to determine the best treatment plan for you. I am certified in Orofacial Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling through Myopain Seminars and can incorporate dry needling techniques into your treatment plan.

I’d love to work with you.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. We are an out of network provider, which allows us to be able to provide high quality care in a one-on-one environment to address your unique needs. This also means that your insurance company does not dictate how long we can work together or authorize a number of visits they will allow for us to treat you, which frequently occurs with traditional in-network providers. Being able to take time to LISTEN to your concerns and properly address them is our number one priority. This translates to less overall visits for you to feel better, less frequent visits, and less money spent on frequent co-payments. We are happy to assist you in checking your insurance company’s out of network benefits for reimbursement and we accept FSA and HSA.

  • Yes! Both of our therapists have spent nearly two decades treating all kinds of orthopedic conditions on all different regions of the body. Dr. Shira focuses on the head, neck, jaw, and shoulders and Dr. Jane focuses on the pelvic floor, hips and low back. If you would like to find out if we are a good fit to work together, schedule a Free Discovery Call so we can discuss any other ailments you may have outside of TMJ and Pelvic Health specialties.

  • A CCTT has extensive knowledge and training in the craniomandibular region. Within the profession of Physical Therapy, there is currently a void that is specific to orofacial and temporomandibular pain/dysfunction syndromes. When you chose a PT with this specialized focus, you are choosing to work with someone who represents a very small fraction of PT’s with advanced training and education in this area.

  • Experiencing symptoms like bowel, bladder, or sexual dysfunction is a good indication that you may benefit from pelvic floor PT.  Urinary symptoms can include leakage, increased urgency or waking up more than two times during the night to use the bathroom.  Bowel symptoms can be constipation, straining, incomplete emptying, incontinence (including difficulty controlling gas).  Pelvic pain, pain with insertion of menstrual absorption devices and difficulty with speculum exams can all be indications of pelvic floor dysfunction.  Though most people associate pelvic floor dysfunction with childbirth there are a lot of people with dysfunction who have not had children including men!

Pelvic floor therapists focus on the intricate coordination between the diaphragm, deep abdominals and pelvic floor muscles.  Sometimes even chronic low back and hip pain that doesn’t seem to be improving may have an underlying pelvic component.  Schedule a Free Discovery Call with Dr. Jane to discuss your symptoms and see if pelvic floor PT would be beneficial for you.

  • It is very common to feel nervous about your first pelvic floor assessment.  On the first day, we will do a thorough medical history and assess general strength and function to determine the root cause of your symptoms.  Internal examinations will not typically be performed on the first day to allow you to get to know your provider and establish a relationship where you feel comfortable.  Internal PT examinations are very different from the pelvic exams you may have experienced at your OB/GYN.  Our examinations are performed with a single finger to assess muscle tightness, strength and endurance.  Your provider will talk you through the entire process before starting and throughout the examination.  Your internal exam may be mildly uncomfortable but it should not be painful.  Open communication is encouraged to express any concerns that may occur before or during treatment.  Internal examinations are NOT required for care and we can modify assessment to accommodate if needed.  Rest assured, all pelvic floor treatments will be performed in a private office with a closed door to maintain privacy.
